Great place in downtown. They have a cozy reading spaces for adults as they have a private area for children with lots of books and some toys. Finding such place for kids in a busy university area is remarkable. Staff are absolutely kind and friendly.

Of course, they have all of the books. Yes, they create a positive learning atmosphere for our future scholars and valedictorians, and all praises are due. Great programming and reading challenges, free breakfast for youth and teens. Health and security are top of mind as well. Boundaries separate youth sections from adults which protects our gems from threat of harm in a large metropolitan city like Columbus as it splits the difference between DTC and OSU Campus. This facility has the most beautiful, most respectful Librarians of all time. Contributing to the lore of brilliant and gorgeous Librarians being a “Thing”. Even more so than all of that truth, which I implore you to fact check and experience for yourself; I insist that this city’s and this staff’s support of and respect for the housing insecure, and displaced is truly admirable. We thank you all!

While the Columbus Metropolitan Northside Branch Library at first seems very accessible, as soon as you spend 10 minutes looking at the finer details of the building, some issues stand out. The library does have braille on its signage, ramps and elevators to move between floors, and lower shelves to making grasping books much easier. The first thing to mention is how the desks at which the librarians stand behind seem slightly too tall for someone who isn't standing in front of the desk. The library also does not have accessible doors. The front door may be an automatic sliding door however, the doors within are not automatic nor are they easy to push at all. Even I, someone who is able bodied in this way, had to put a lot of force getting the study room doors open. This is not to mention that the doors have handles on both sides handles are for pulling not pushing making it unclear how to properly open the doors. This is, of course, mended with the slightly out of sight sign prompting patrons to ask for help opening study room doors. While this library does excel in many areas of accessibility there are still areas where they fall short.

While this library is on the smaller side, the staff are all super friendly and have always been able to assist me when I have a question. The library is new and clean and has a parking lot in the back. For those complaining about the homeless people at this library: libraries are a public space that are welcoming to everybody, including our unhoused community members. I have never had a bad interaction with any of the homeless people at this library and I don't understand why their presence upsets people. Anyways, I love this library and the people who work at and visit this location.
