We are blessed as. A "small town" to have a weekly newspaper that has covered items of local interest for generations. In the wake of the lockdown, a period with few activities to report, shopping severely limited and supplies and products iffy it was floundering. The newest generation of editors-in-chief is working harder and smarter to bring it back to the true purpose of a local paper. Prices had to double last year to do this, but when you only raise them once in 20 years that is still a great deal. What else are you buying that has only doubled?. I personally have fhe combination yearly email edition that comes on Tuesdays and paper copy that arrives in my mail box on Thursdays. I get the news ahead of most people but then I have a printed history to study, scrapbook, send cards, refer back to for list of restaurants currently open, local service/trade professionals who advertise-supporting their community and being available to find in sma day where few people have phone books.
I also enjoy reading reports of what local gmservice groups are doing. In fact I write them for two Auxiliaries in which I am active. Which brings me to WHY I was at the Graphic building in person last week. I had articles due for both groups with reports of people who should be recognized and upcoming events we needed readers to support. Since pictures were involved the need to be submitted electronically. One went through just fine. I received my thank you note letting me know it was in the files and would appear in the paper. The other just said it was in my queue! With submission deadline approaching I headed for the Graphic office. I walked in half an hour after the deadline with my phone in hand and my story. It took a bit, but their guru got it to send. And late though it was it was in the paper. So grateful to have such a good newspaper even if my difficultly with names keeps me from recognizing them individually, they work as a team and cover the bases.
