Our server, M. P., provided an exceptional level of service during our visit. We did not need to request a water refill, as she consistently engaged with us at our table and ensured that my guest's birthday celebration was memorable. The grilled chicken on my Caesar salad was of remarkable quality; it maintained a perfect level of moisture throughout.

I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend on March 15th—a busy day in Chicago—so I was willing to cut them some slack. To be fair, our server, Adam, was awesome, and the kitchen nailed the 1000-layer potatoes. However, the restaurant wasn’t busy when we arrived, and the experience fell short in several ways.

Earlier in the day, we visited three other restaurants, all of which handled the crowds effortlessly while delivering excellent service and quality. Unfortunately, this place didn’t measure up. We were seated at a table with trash and food underneath it, which was pretty unappealing. On top of that, they served $18 cocktails in plastic cups, which felt cheap given the price. When we decided to leave and asked for the bill, it was incorrect. I usually wouldn’t double-check, but when I glanced at my phone and saw it was $90, it raised a red flag. The manager did fix the issue, but the whole situation felt off.

With so many restaurants in Chicago that excel in both service and cleanliness, I don’t see a reason to return. My time is too valuable to spend at a mid-level restaurant that doesn’t meet basic standards.

Had dinner with a friend here.
Food was good, wonderful service and atmosphere.

We got the soup of the day, deviled egg, shepherd pie, chicken pot pie, bread pudding and the pumpkin pie. All were very nice.

Made real on Google for 7 a week in advance, probably didn’t need to. We were Sat by the door which was draft & on the cool side being a spinning door. Menu for food & drinks is a QR code which I hate, especially for nicer restaurants. Had a few apps, naan bread, potatoes, calamari, butternut soup ( more thick like potatoes ) all were good. 2 of us had the prime rib sand and didn’t love it. Waiter didn’t take note and only misheard one item which got us an additional steak. We would have ordered more drinks had we been asked but we weren’t and meal was about done by the time he came back. Fish n chips was more on the soggy side than crisp but tasted ok. Son likes the brisket burger but avocado is $4 and bacon is $4 so it adds up if you want more than cheese. Was a bday that we mentioned upon arriving but nothing was offered for it. Sodas are cans or bottle so no refills, cherry coke was $8 I think for a bottle. One had the lamb curry and didn’t feel well the next day but he could have not agree with the curry. At the end of the day we were not upset with the dinner, just probably don’t have to rush back next time.

Such a cool looking place in downtown Chicago. Has its own special vibe and atmosphere thats pretty cool.

Food was pretty good as well, albeit expensive. Had the burger and we all split the chili Naan and some other apps.

Chili Naan was unique and spicy, was a big fan and the burger was pretty good.

The pretzels and cheese were really good- I wish there were chips or something else to balance the cheese to bread ratio. I also got the fish and chips which were ok - I would probably recommend the mushroom risotto instead. Service was great, it was a quiet Wednesday night.

They have $2 oysters during happy hour (3-5pm daily) and they were one of the best oysters we’ve ever had!

The steak was meh but burger was amazing. They have a $20 burger, beer, and shot deal during happy hour.

The $12 ā€œchicken tendersā€ from the kid’s menu are the $16 monarch crispy chickens and are delicious! It’s not your typical chicken tenders—they tasted more like tonkatsu—the same breading as their scotch egg.

We also loved their teas. It comes in a pot with a generous amount of tea and was a great way to end our heavy meal.

They’re also an InKind restaurant—get the InKind app for more discounts!

Even though this spot is a bit off the Michigan Avenue traffic, I totally recommend making the detour. Not only is M&L beautiful with its totally transporting British interior, it has delicious pub food…better than anything I had in London. The tea was the best part tbh, and I don’t enjoy tea. The lunch deal was an excellent deal too!
