I normally take my kids to the public access site by Champaign Shores..but I gave this a shot. The trail closest to Defenbaugh(or however you spell it...south entrance) is the best place to start. Now you would think you could fish here. Well...nope. All the fish were dead. I think we counted 15 dead fish and not a single live one. We found a bunch of muscles...one bigger than I have ever seen...but they breath the water that killed the fish so probabably not safe to eat. No frogs or crayfish....like there used to be. Bad sign as well. Found a little cave but it ended after 5 feet. Not sure if this area is still toxic from the steel mill or what...but this part of the Wild Cat is still extremely unhealthy. At least shell fish can still survive. Little rock formation was fun to walk around on. I'm no activist...but the river I grew up exploring as a kid, that used to be full of interesting critters, is still screwed up. Hey...at least we have giant tongues that live in shells. Lolz.

It's a good place to drop your kayak or canoe into the creek and there's some decent fishing depending on the water level and time of day.
