Fantastic education on the most egregiously overlooked, important public resource: water. Our tour guide Rachel presented everything about how water gets from Prettyboy reservoir and the Susquehanna river to the pipes in your house, and how your number 2 winds up in Essex. A glimpse of the bowels of the operation, the pumps and pipes, is worth the price of admission, which is free. A comprehensive homage to Mr. Trash Wheel. Tremendously entertaining and interesting museum, which remains in operation as the primary sewer pumping station for all of Baltimore. Visit and you’ll stop bitching about that rain tax.

Was walking by Saturday morning and saw that it was only open Saturdays so we popped our head in. Admission was $3 for adults and it was neat to learn about all the public works! Particularly enjoyed the history and hands on learning about the Trash Wheel family and the history and current operations of the water treatment of Baltimore. Def worth a (30-60 min) stop and the public works park right next door was super fun to explore with some of the more adventurous members of our group crawling through the large pipe

We were visiting the harbor for the weekend and randomly decided to check this out. It was a perfect stop for our kids. Our 7 year old learned some interesting facts about the history behind these facilities, while our 3 year old had time to play with the trucks there.

Came in for a tour of the pump station side. It was short and sweet. The inside is geared for kids and some interesting reads for adults. We got to see some trucks outside and the outdoor portion of the museum. The pump station was so beautiful!!!!
Pics inside were not allowed 🙁

Tour was fascinating and staff was super knowledgeable. Building architecture is amazing - especially marble banisters in the pump room. They don’t make ‘em like they used to! Great for history buffs and anyone curious about how things work, kid-friendly too. Highly recommend this Baltimore gem!

Such a worthwhile experience which I would recommend for all ages. Learned so much about everyday services I simply take for granted. If you're a lover of Baltimore history, how stuff works or behind-the-scenes anything, add this to your must see list. The staff is beyond friendly, the exhibit is impeccable and so informative, and for a mere $5 your experience includes a visit to the pump room which is a step back in time, as well as present day display of mechanical and engineering genius. If you've ever been curious about what happens after you flush the toilet or if want your children to understand and appreciate where the water in the faucet comes from or why it's important to not throw trash in the street, this is the exhibit for you. And Big Trucks Day on May 13th is now on my to do list!

I needed a space for a day-long workshop in the Inner Harbor area and came across the listing for the Public Works Experience via Google Maps. It turned out to be perfect - convenient location for the conference hotels, flexible space with way more than enough room for my 25 attendees, helpful staff, and reasonable cost. I would definitely recommend it to others looking for event space in this area.
