I came in at 10 on this past Thursday. For starters, this is just the courthouse. The real address is 1700 Gaudalupe St, but the security officer at the courthouse was nice enough to give me a pamphlet over the directions. I just wazed. Parking is difficult, but I ended up just paying the parking lot accross the street, for $4 an hour. The law library helped me out to tell me I had all the documents I needed, and the district clerk was really helpful and kind. It was the first time I heard my actual name in a public setting, and I was done within an hour. Not long of a wait, but I would advise you go earlier in the day.

Went to this address paid for two hours of parking just to find out they had moved and the address had not been updated. I understand that the city does things and slow pace, but competence people get it together. These are the easy things if you can’t do the easy things how can we trust you with the bigger things?

My husband and I got married in May 2021, and they told us that they’ll send us a marriage license later even thought we suggested that we pick it up at the office. It’s already July 2022, and we never received it. We called them to ask if they sent the license to our address, and they said they did but have NO TRACKING NUMBER. The post office says they have never received anything from the office. Since they failed to deliver such an important document, we asked if we could at least receive a copy of the license for free. But they said no. It was supposed to be the best moment of my life, but they have ruined the memory forever.

I have been trying to get a LEGAL name change done through them and the district court. I have dine and exceeded their requirements but kept being told i have to wait to get the final order due to COVID. Unfortunately this kangaroo court system DOES NOT care about people. COVID restrictions have been over for well over a year and they REFUSE to reopen the court system. Unfortunately i have seen murder trials go to court faster than civil matters. This is a complete travesty to justice. I feel they are damaging peoples mental and physical health due to their complete lack of care and laziness. Also they took my money fir a filing fee before letting me know that the wait was two to three months Which if I had been told this before hand, I would have filed in another district court that would have heard my case. If you are filing any civil cases is Travis County avoid this court at all cost and file in another county if possible so you can actually have your caee heard instead of being put off and the courts hoping your case will expire before a hearing so they can keep your fee and you have to pay again.

Came to apply for a passport. The District Clerk apparently doesn't accept credit/debit cards or electronic checks so had to go get a money order, which is fine. Came back well before closing and was denied the chance to submit my application because they had too many already and wanted to go home by closing time. I work in Customer Service and we take customer's applications until closing because it's not about us as employees, it's about the customer and taking care of their needs. I used my day off to try to get this done and was turned away because these employees don't want to go the extra mile for their customer. I feel how valued I am as a Travis County resident - not at all. If this were a private institution these employees wouldn't make it very long because it's expected to do what it takes to make your customer happy. I suppose when it comes to government services you don't really have a choice so why would their employees be held to any kind of standard...? The same thinking that tries to prevent monopolies in our society: because it's decreases the need for high standards. My only hope is that the District Clerk doesn't know its citizens are being turned away before closing and that this message might reach them and help institute change in the operation of their facility. I'm unbelievably disappointed on a day I was excited to submit an application for my first passport.

UPDATE: I came back a week later and was helped by Linda. She was fast, knowledgeable, and got us out in under an hour. Thank you, Linda!! 🙂

Very fast and helpful staff. I have been in office to purchase a marriage license and the staff are quick and help with any questions you may have. I have called this office a few times in regards to questions after the ceremony and I have had the pleasure of speaking with Mrs. Brittany. She has been so pleasant to speak with!

Following our mother's death, my siblings and I spent weeks circulating and notarizing the official small estate affidavit we downloaded from Texas.gov. Finally, with all signatures in place, we presented it to the Travis County Clerk's office today. They rejected it, saying all the information and signatures were correct but that Travis County now has its own form - WHICH IS IDENTICAL EXCEPT FOR THE FONT. Absolute joke show.

Adrian (Court Clerk II, 455th District Court) is awesome! He emailed the documents that I needed, that had been requested from an attorney's office, but apparently they never saw the email, so I asked Adrian if he would email the docs to me instead, and BAM! Got them!! Thank you! A++++
