Wow! I'm so glad we ate here. The food was amazing. We did have to wait about 1 hour to get seated, but it was worth the wait. Started with calamari and was delicious, i went with lasagna, and my wife went with salads. She had only good things to say, and the lasagna was amazing. So to finish off the night we went with the Flan and it was a perfect finish to dinner. Service was very polite and very helpful. We didn't want to finish our night yet, so we sat at the bar with Cody and Brittney and talk about the two best bartenders! So much fun to talk with, and they make really great drinks. It was the perfect ending to our night. Good company is hard to find, and I would highly recommend stopping here and getting drinks and food. You won't be disappointed. I will stop here again for sure.

During the day while soaking in the 106F natural hot springs at the Charlotte Hot Springs in Buena Vista, we asked a local for his recommendation of his favorite dinner restaurant - he said to try the Surf Hotel restaurant. What a nice quiet friendly place. Our waitress (Faith I believe was he name) was cheerfully attentive. The food was a beautiful work of art and perfectly cooked. Our dessert was Carrot cake; bite after bite reminded me of our custom wedding carrot cake some 40 years ago... all was incredible.
We're going back!

Experience from the beginning wasn’t great - was on the waitlist for 2 people, then found out later in the night after a long wait time that we were bumped off the list So we never got contacted that a table was available. Once we were actually dining -

Cocktails were great! HOWEVER the food was below mid. My boyfriend got the Surf burger, and honestly Five Guys is just as good if not better. He also ordered the truffle parmesan fries as a side, and only received normal fries. I got the goat cheese Gnocchi, and it was drenched and sitting in oil (picture attached). I couldn’t taste any of the goat cheese, mainly just parmesan. I added on chicken to the dish and it also gave me mild food poisoning for the rest of the night. Would not recommend the food - but if looking for a good drink the cocktail menu definitely delivered.

Loved the sound of the Arkansas River. Nice pours from the bartenders. Recommend the cheese skillet (ask for more bread) and the lamb pops. Many small plates available. The bison short ribs were a favorite because of the spicy sweet potato puree balancing the tender, juicy red meat. Also recommended: onion soup and the beet salad. For drinks, try the locally distilled DeerHammer bourbon as the Chateau Standard.

The elk rack was amazing, and I highly recommend the parm truffle fries. Excellently seasoned and cooked to perfection. Although the front door hostess had to ask about my service dog. It didn't seem a huge deal, and they were kind enough to park us in a quiet corner. The scrumptious apple berry crisp I took back to the hotel for dessert was such a big portion, I had dessert and a snack for later. This is the best food I've had out of BV to date, and I look forward to eating here again on my next visit.

I want to give this place 5 stars but the food was disappointing for take out. The atmosphere is great and they drinks are very good, but we ordered food to go and had issues with it. My wife ordered the beet salad ($16) and added chicken ($9). If we remove the chicken there is hardly a dish left. It had 2 super thin red beets, a small amount of golden beet cubes, the smallest amount of greens and a scoop of sheep cheese. I don’t think she even got the dressing. All combined there definitely isn’t even a single whole beets worth of food for a $16 dollar dish (before chicken cost). It sucks but I feel completely ripped off. I called the the restaurant to confirm we didn’t miss anything and they just said that’s how it is. See picture for dish without chicken removed. Would you pay $16 for that? To be fair the fries from my burger are really good.

Shortly: very inconsistent.
The palce seems ok, although the music was extremely loud. The staff was very nice.
The food... varied way too much. The "boring" breadboard was absolutely amazing, and so were brussels sprouts, which blew our minds. At the same time, things that we expected to be good had no flavor at all. Skirt steak would be better grilled at home with simply salt and pepper. The burger simply didn't have any taste, which I'm still puzzled on how it's even possible to achieve. I swapped the fries for a half Caesar, and it was also the first time in forever when a Caesar salad wasn't at least ok. Overall, it was unfortunately a disappointment.

Bonus points for clearly marking gluten free options and substitutions.

Probably one of the best meals I have had in my recent life. I got the seafood special which was shrimp and scallops, over a parsnip puree with blistered tomatoes and some scrumptious dill infused oil. Hubs got the short ribs with a sort of mole sauce that was out of this world! Wine selection is great. House selections on point. Beautiful space with great decor. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Many kudos to them! We were also lucky enough to be there on a night with live music. Thankful our friends have a place in BV as we will make this a must go every trip back! Can't say enough great things about the place! If you're within an hour, it's worth the trip. Can't wait to go back.
